MIMS PTO
September Newsletter - 2023
President's Message

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a great first week of school. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the teachers, administrators, and parent volunteers who played a crucial role in ensuring a smooth drop-off and dismissal process during the first week of school. A special shout-out goes to our VP of Middle School, Ms. Emily Shaffer, for her dedicated efforts in managing traffic control over the past two years.

We have an exciting and busy couple of months ahead of us. We will be gearing up for the Mid- Autumn Festival on September 29th, reaching out for Sociable contributions, and planning an array of activities for our MIMS families. Our parent-led clubs are also getting ready for a year filled with enriching learning opportunities. Stay tuned for announcements on how to join via Bloomz.

In addition, we’re excited to kick off the month with our fundraising endeavors. Our biggest goal for this year is to make a significant improvement by installing a shade structure over the Spark Park. This initiative holds immense importance as it aims to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all the children to play while being protected from the sun’s rays. Your support in our fundraising efforts will play a pivotal role in bringing this project to fruition and enhancing the well-being of our children. Keep an eye out for our inaugural Moon Gala, taking place at the beautiful rooftop of The POST HTX, set against the stunning backdrop of the Houston skyline. Stay tuned for more details in the next few weeks!

Our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is a close-knit group who thrives on the support of parent volunteers and are always on the lookout for others to contribute to the wonderful initiatives we have planned.

Please check out our website for upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways to give back. Have a safe school year, everyone!

Emily Shaffer: VP Middle School

In this month's newsletter, we are shining the spotlight on one of our dedicated PTO board members, Emily Shaffer, who serves as our Vice President of Middle School. Emily is a remarkable individual with a passion for education and a strong commitment to our school community. When she's not actively involved in PTO activities, Emily enjoys indulging in her favorite pastimes. She is an avid reader and loves coffee. However, spending quality time with her loving family is her passion. Emily is a proud parent of two MIMS students, Madeline (5th grade) and Maxine (8th grade). As a dedicated mother, Emily understands the importance of fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for all students. Emily's educational background is equally impressive. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, which has given her a strong foundation in biology and is currently a stay-at-home mom. We are incredibly fortunate to have Emily as a valuable member of our PTO board. Her dedication, knowledge, and passion for education make her an invaluable asset to our school. Please join us in expressing our gratitude to Emily for her outstanding contributions to our community.

This Week in Photos

Introducing our exceptional teacher spotlight for this edition of our PTO newsletter! With an impressive 35 years of teaching experience in HISD, Mrs. Butler has been an integral part of our school since its inception. Her love for the Mandarin program, which she has been an advocate for since its very beginning, sets her apart. Beyond her professional achievements, she is a proud parent to two accomplished daughters. One is pursuing her studies at Texas A&M University, while the other is embarking on a promising nursing career at West Virginia University. At home, she shares her love with two adorable dogs and a charming cat. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, cooking, reading, and watching K-dramas. We are fortunate to have such a remarkable teacher as part of our school community. Her dedication, expertise, and genuine love for her students make her an invaluable asset to our school. Join us in celebrating her achievements and thanking her for her continuing commitment to shaping young minds, while also keeping everyone entertained with her clever sense of humor and daily riddle.
