Season of Giving

Dear MIMS Families and Supporters,

As we gather around the warmth of the holiday season, the MIMS PTO extends our heartfelt wishes of joy, peace, and gratitude to each and every one of you.

This year has been a journey of collaboration, community, friendship, and unwavering support. Our PTO is immensely grateful for the dedicated parents, teachers, and volunteers who have generously given their time, energy, and enthusiasm to make our MIMS community a vibrant and nurturing environment for our students.

In the true spirit of the season, we want to express our deepest appreciation for your contributions, whether big or small. From organizing sociables to volunteering at school to helping at our many events, your commitment has played a pivotal role in enhancing the educational experience for our children. We’ve collectively created a sense of unity and strength within our school that is like no other.

This year, we’ve all worked hard, had our ups and downs, and continue to grow together as a big family. Let’s continue to support each other, uplift those around us with positive feedback, and embrace the spirit of generosity that defines this special time of the year.

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season filled with laughter, love, and the magic of togetherness.

Cheers from our team!

PTO Board Spotlight
Amonee Haley

We are excited to shine a spotlight on Amonee Haley, our dedicated PTO Elementary School Vice President, who has been an integral part of our MIMS community since its inception in 2012. With a background in Biology and a passion for education, Amonee brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role. Having earned a BS degree in Biology from Dillard University, Amonee has a strong foundation in the sciences. She has also taught middle school Science and GED Literacy Classes, demonstrating her commitment to fostering academic growth in students of all ages. Beyond her work at MIMS, Amonee is actively involved in the community. She serves as the President and Board Member of PUSH TO WIN OUTREACH, INC, a nonprofit organization that supports underprivileged youth and families. Her dedication to making a positive impact extends beyond the school walls. As a parent, Amonee has four children, each with their own unique educational journeys. Her eldest daughter, Azarel, is a freshman at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, and was the first MIMS graduate to study abroad in Taiwan for an academic school year. Her daughter, McKinley, is a sophomore at DeBakey High School for Health Professions and was part of the first PK-8th grade graduating class from MIMS. She also has a sixth-grader, Xander, and a first-grader, Titan, who are currently enrolled at MIMS. Within our school community, Amonee is actively involved in various committees and initiatives. She currently serves on the TA Committee, CNY Committee, and is the Chair of the Diversity/Heritage Committee and the Elementary Advisory Committee. Additionally, she is a Wrap Around Specialist Parent Representative, ensuring that the needs of all students are met. Outside of her role at MIMS, Amonee is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America. She also dedicates her time to the Girl Scouts of America as a Co-Leader of Ambassador Scouts and Troop Cookie Manager, as well as the Boy Scouts of America. When she's not busy serving on PTO boards or volunteering, Amonee enjoys playing tennis, a sport she played on the university team. She also finds joy in reading books, watching movies, visiting museums, and trying new cuisines. Her active lifestyle includes bike riding and kickboxing, which keep her energized and ready to take on new challenges. We are grateful to have Amonee Haley as our dedicated PTO Elementary School Vice President in our MIMS community. Her passion for education, commitment to service, and love for our school make her an invaluable asset to our team.

Ms. Simpson & Mr. Wang
Ms. Simpson

We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on Rachel Simpson, one of our beloved teachers at MIMS. Ms. Simpson has been an integral part of our team since the inception of our school, bringing her expertise and passion for early childhood education to our Pre-K classroom. With a master's degree in early childhood education, Ms. Simpson is well-equipped to provide our youngest learners with a solid foundation in language, motor and social skills. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she also serves as the elementary teacher liaison for UIL, showcasing her dedication to fostering a well-rounded experience for our students. Ms. Simpson’s commitment to our school community extends beyond the classroom. She has been a Co-MC at both our CNY Festival and MIMS Moon Gala alongside Mr. Bin Wang, showcasing her enthusiasm for cultural celebrations and community engagement. Her involvement in these events highlights her dedication to creating a vibrant and inclusive school environment. As a native Houstonian, Ms. Simpson proudly supports her hometown teams, like the Houston Astros and the Houston Rockets. Her love for sports extends to her travels as well. She had the incredible opportunity to visit our sister school in Beijing as well as travel to Chongqing and Taiwan. During her visits, she was impressed by the level of responsibility and independence exhibited by the students. Witnessing their ability to carry out tasks such as cleaning the hallways, classrooms, and bathrooms without supervision left a lasting impression on her. Ms. Simpson considers teaching at MIMS to be a truly special experience. Her genuine love for our children is evident in her dedication and commitment to their growth and development. Outside of teaching, Ms. Simpson enjoys indulging in her hobbies. She finds joy in watching dramas, listening to K-pop, and embracing her inner superstar through Karaoke. We are incredibly grateful to have Ms. Simpson as part of our MIMS family. Her expertise, passion, and genuine care for our students make her an invaluable asset to our school community. Thank you, Ms. Simpson, for your dedication and for making a positive impact on the lives of our students.

Mr. Wang

We are excited to also shine a spotlight on Bin Wang, a dedicated and passionate math teacher at MIMS. Mr. Wang has been an integral part of our school community for the past four years, bringing his expertise and enthusiasm to our middle school seventh and eighth-grade math classes. Bin's journey to becoming a teacher is an inspiring one. As a child, he immigrated from Beijing, China, to Queens, New York, before eventually settling in Houston at the age of 16. Prior to his teaching career, Mr. Wang worked in plastic sales and even ranked as a video game player. However, he felt a calling to make a difference in the lives of students and decided to pursue a teaching degree at the University of Houston. With seven years of teaching experience under his belt, Mr. Wang has found his true passion at MIMS. He considers our school to be one of the most unique and is grateful to have found a place where he can make a meaningful impact on his students' lives. Outside of the classroom Mr. Wang provides enriching experiences for his students. He serves as the teacher liaison for middle school UIL. He has also organized and led an 8th grade student trip to New York city, including a trip to Chinatown in Flushing, Queens. The students had the opportunity to use their Mandarin skills and immerse themselves in the culture.  They were able to apply their language skills in a real-world setting and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. Outside of his professional life, Mr. Wang enjoys spending time with his beloved cat, Samuel Meow Jackson and riding his road-bike on the weekends. While he would love to play video games all the time, he recognizes the importance of balance and manages his time wisely. In fact, he wakes up at 4 AM every day and often hits the gym, demonstrating his commitment to personal wellness. Mr. Wang’s involvement in our school community goes beyond his teaching responsibilities. He has co-hosted both CNY Festival and MIMS Moon Gala alongside Ms. Simpson, showcasing his enthusiasm for cultural celebrations and community engagement. We are incredibly grateful to have Mr. Wang as part of our MIMS family. His dedication, passion, and commitment to our students' success make him an invaluable asset to our school community. Thank you, Mr. Wang, for your dedication and for making a positive impact on the lives of our students.
